The Merrick fire department with mutual aid from North Bellmore was summoned to Sunrise Highway & Hewlett Ave. where two cars collided trapping five passengers in the one vehicle. With further assistance from the NCPD Emergency Service Unit, the five were eventually extricated and removed to local hospitals. No life threatening injuries have been reported. This intersection has been the scene of 3 other serious accidents in the past several weeks.
