On Wednesday November 25, the Merrick Fire Department responded to an auto accident with fire on Merrick Road outside of the Holiday Park Shopping Center. The driver of the vehicle lost control, hit a utility pole that snapped in half and the vehicle burst into flames. Luckily the driver was able to escape the flames. Volunteer firefighters arrived quickly, extinguished the fire, treated and transported the driver to an area hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. There was no power loss in the area as a result of the accident. LIPA was notified of the incident and replaced the utility pole.
